Indian 'whizkid' bowls media with NASA googly- The Times of India
I knew it ! I knew it! On the day I saw about this ISD exam and such an award, I generally googled for such an examination and saw that nothing was to be found other than reports in the Indian Media. I knew it then that this exam should be a hoax. But I was wondering how the media fell for this hook,line and sinker.
Shame on the media for not doing due diligence! In the age of the Internet and Google, can't reporters just check on google to see if the report is correct?
The times of India which has broken this scam is not to be spared either. It carries almost all its headline news with a shrill tone that disconcerts me, to say the least. It is a known offender for its blatant yellow journalism.
I'm very sorry to say that the Indian Media has not matured at all. The second most populous country in the world with so many intelligent people deserves a lot better than crappy unverified news snippets. Come on, their readers pay for these newspapers!
BTW, this is not the first such mistake. Many such have happened in the past. This is what happens when you are away from the web and people can make such tall claims. One of my earlier blog posts was on a similar topic. Where is the Hindu adherence to Truth ? Where are "satyam vada" and "dharmam chara" ? Just in the Upanishad and not in our lives ?
Why did that Singh boy indulge in this malpractice? Was he too naive to assume that people would swallow his hoax ? Such episodes make me sick.

ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿ.ಆಶ್ವಥ್ರ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ಒಂದು ಸುರುಳಿ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವರ ಸಂಗೀತ ನನಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಹಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಈಗ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹಸಿದವನಿಗೆ ಏನಾದರೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಅಂತೀರ ? ಇರಬಹುದೋ ಏನೋ!
ಭಾವಗೀತೆಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಬಂದಂಥ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪ್ರಕಾರವೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇರೆ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಏರಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಸಂಗೀತ "ಸುಗಮ" ವೆಂದು ತೋರಿದರೂ ಸಂಗೀತ ರಚನೆಕಾರರಿಗೆ "ದುರ್ಗಮ"ವೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು. ಕವನಗಳ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ರಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಳಗಳನ್ನಳವಡಿಸಿ ಹಾಡುವುದು ಸುಲಭಕೆಲಸವೇನಲ್ಲ.
ಆದರೆ ಬೇಂದ್ರೆಯವರ "ನೀ ಹೀಂಗ ನೋಡಬ್ಯಾಡ ನನ್ನ" ಎಂಬ ಕವನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇಮಕವನ ಮಾಡಿದಂಥ ದೊಡ್ಡ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅಶ್ವಥ್ ರವರು ಹಾಗಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು. ೨೦೦೦ ಇಸವಿಯ ಹ್ಯೂಸ್ಟನ್ ವಿಶ್ವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪವೇನು ಬಹಳ ತಕರಾರನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಯಾವುದೋ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದುಡ್ಡು ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಬಹಳ ಗಲಾಟೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗ ಇವರಷ್ಟು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಸುಗಮಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.

Arrest 'pseudo intellectuals' with Naxal links: BJP - Newindpress.com
This link is just a placeholder to show what has been happening in Bangalore for over the last couple of weeks.
First a couple of naxalites were killed in an encounter by the police. Now a big hue and cry was made by a few people who considered themselves intellectuals about taking the bodies of the naxalites in procession. The police refused to comply and cremated the bodies in police custody. This angered a lot of Communist "intellectuals" some of whom actually threatened physical violence.
Sure enough, 7 policemen were killed in a village near Pavagada, Tumkur. This was seen as retaliation from the Naxals to the police killing of their people.
With this development, Naxal violence has come big-time to Karnataka. We were all thinking that all this was in Andhra Pradesh and was probably a violent reaction to the overbearing and haughty landlords in the Rayalaseema part of AP.
Several so-called-intellectuals including the director of the popular serial Mukta - TN Seetharam, Ravi Belagere, UR Anantamurti and GK Govindarao had castigated the police for the naxal killing. But after the policemen were killed, surprisingly, there has been no condolence message from any of these people. If this silence indicates support, then these people have to be arrested for interfering with law and order.
TN Seetharam made a statement before the airing of his Mukta serial that he would stop showing the Naxal movement favorably in his serial. He also 'recanted' his statement that he supported the Naxal movement in the face of this exhibition of violence. This statement was in the Vijayakarnataka (a Kannada newspaper) Reader's column.
However, the great left "Intellectual" AnaathamUrti continued to not condemn the Naxal movement explicitly. Neither did he express condolences to the dead policemen. Though organizations such as the RSS or the BJP had nothing to do with this incident, he has once again drawn a comparison between both.
Now my question to this moron is - when has the RSS or the BJP killed policemen ? Since when have they observed the Indian Independence day as a black day ? Does the BJP and RSS have access to AK-47 rifles ? Even as an impartial observer, I have to say that though the VHP (not the RSS) had issued some shrill statements against muslims (I don't like some of those statements) they have never killed policemen and never have had access to AK47s. So this great blockhead who is also a litterateur must come down from his ivory tower and see the ground reality. Ability with words is not the same as the ability to comprehend reality. Such people must really be pulled down from their pedestals and be made to see reality. Since their words are read by many people, it is their responsibility to the people to give statements only after a thorough understanding of the issues. Otherwise, let them maintain a dignified silence.
At this point, I must make a detailed study of Marxism and discredit it thoroughly. Though I don't like some ideas, the idea behind that is probably good. As in our Indian Darshanas, every darshana cares for the people - but does not understand the difference between hita (good) and sukha (pleasure). But as they say, the way to hell is paved with good intentions. Why are people in India still hanging on to this widely discredited ideology?
In my opinion, people have to think based on specific issues and not paint the issues with a right or left brush. Of course, this takes more time. But don't get painted red or by any other colour!

ಸಾಕೇತನ ಸಾವನ್ನು ಖಂಡಿಸಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ "ಗದರ್" ಅನ್ನುವವನು ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆದರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದ. ಆಗ ಅವನನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ದಸ್ತಗಿರಿಯೇಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ ? ರಾಜಾರೋಷವಾಗಿ "ಬಂದೂಕಿನಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ" ಅನ್ನುವವನನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಹಿಡಿಯಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಪೋಲೀಸರು ಅಸಮರ್ಥರೇ ? ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಎಡಬಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶೋಚನೀಯ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತರಾಗಿ ಕೂಡ ಏನೂ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರದವರಾಗಿ, ಮೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡು ತಮಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಘಾತಕರಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ವಿಜಯಕರ್ಣಾಟಕ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರು ವಿಜಯ್ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಎಂಬುವವರು ಬಹಳ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆಂಧ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಒತ್ತಡದಿಂದ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕೂರುವಂತೆ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಕ್ಸಲರು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಸರಬರಾಜಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ? ಇದು ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ವಿಷಯವೇ ! ಚೀನಾ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನಗಳು ಭಾರತದ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಿಡುಗನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಕ್ರಮ ಬೇಗ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕವೂ ಆಂಧ್ರದ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕಾದೀತು.
ವಿಜಯ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಈ ಸಾಕೇತನ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನೂ ಡಾ|| ಸುದರ್ಶನರ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನೂ ಅವುಗಳ ಉಪಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಸಮಾಜದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಳಕಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತವರಾಗಿಯೂ ಸಹ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಒಂದು ಜನಾಂಗವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರು ಒಂದು ಜನಾಂಗವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪು ದಾರಿಗೆ ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು.
ಅಲ್ಲ, ನಮ್ಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನಕ್ಸಲರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕ್ರಮಕೈಗೊಂಡದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರೋಧವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ, ಸತ್ತ ನಕ್ಸಲರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಣ್ನೀರು ಸುರಿಸಿದ "ಸಾಹಿತಿ"ಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ವಸ್ತುಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನರಿಯದ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಬಹಳ ಅಪಾಯಕಾರಿ. ಅರುಂಧತೀ ರಾಯ್ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿ-ಕಾರ್ನಾಡರೇ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ. ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗೌರಿ ಲಂಕೇಶ್ ಬೇರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ "ಹಾಯ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್" ಖ್ಯಾತಿಯ ರವಿ ಬೆಳಗೆರೆ ಕೂಡ ನಕ್ಸ್ಲರನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಏಕೆ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಹೀಗೆ ? ಐಷಾರಾಮದ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಡವರ ರಕ್ತವನ್ನು ಹೀರುವ ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿಗಳಿಗೂ - ಬಡವರ ಭಾವನೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಟವಾಡಿ ದುಡ್ಡು ಮಾಡಿ ಐಷಾರಾಮದ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುವ ಈ ಬಗೆಯ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಏನೂ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿಲ್ಲ.
ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸ್ಟರು ಎಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಜನಪರರಾಗಿ ತೋರಿಕೊಂಡು ಜನವಿರೋಧಿಗಳಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಚೀನಾ ಮತ್ತು ರಷ್ಯಾ ದೇಶಗಳ ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸ್ಟರನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೀರಾ ? ಒಬ್ಬ ಧುರೀಣ ತನ್ನ ಮಗನಿಗೆ ಮಿಲಿಯಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಜನರನ್ನು ಸಾಯಿಸಿ ಹಿಟ್ಲರ್ ಗಿಂತ ಕ್ರೂರಿಯೆನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ಟಾಲಿನ್ ಹೆಸರನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ತಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲವೇ ? ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಏನು ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಚೀನಾದ ಮಾವೋ ಮತ್ತು ಲೆನಿನ್ ರನ್ನು ದೇವತೆಗಳ ರೀತಿ ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಬೇರೆ ಧರ್ಮಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮತಾಂಧವಾದ ಧರ್ಮ ಈ ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸಮ್. ಮಾರ್ಕ್ಸನೇ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದ - ನಾನು ಮಾರ್ಕ್ಸ್ ವಾದಿಯಲ್ಲವೆಂದು. ವಾದ ಮಾಡಿದವನೇ ತನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪನ್ನರಿತು ವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುರುಳಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದಾಗ - ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಉರುಳು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಬುದ್ಧಿಗೇಡಿ ಕಾಮ್ರೇಡರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳಲಾದೀತು?
ಬಹಳ ಕೋಪ ಬಂದಿದೆ ನನಗೆ. ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಆಂಧ್ರ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದಾರಲ್ಲಾ ಎಂದು. ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ಇನ್ನೊಮ್ಮೆ ಏನಾದರೂ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ನೋಡಿದಿರಾ ? ನಕ್ಸಲೀಯರನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ನನೆಗೆ ಆಗದು ಎಂದು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಈಗ ಆರು ಪೋಲೀಸರನನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದಾಕ್ಷಿಣ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೊಲ್ಲುವೆ ಬಗೆ ನೋಡಿ. ak-47 ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದು ಬಾಂಬುಗಳು ಗ್ರಿನೇಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಂಥವರು "ಸಮಾಜ-ಸುಧಾರಕರೇ" ? ಈ "ಪ್ರೇಮ್" ಅನ್ನುವವನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನಗೆ ಆಗ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಈಗ ಕರಗಿಹೋಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಜವಹರಲಾಲ ನೆಹರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಮಾಜಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವರು ತಪ್ಪು ದಾರಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನೇಪಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾವೋಗಳ ಮುಖಂಡ, ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಎಡಬಣಿಗರೂ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಓದಿದ್ದರು.
ಸಾಕೇತನ ಸಾವನ್ನು ಖಂಡಿಸಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ "ಗದರ್" ಅನ್ನುವವನು ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆದರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದ. ಆಗ ಅವನನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ದಸ್ತಗಿರಿಯೇಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ ? ರಾಜಾರೋಷವಾಗಿ "ಬಂದೂಕಿನಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ" ಅನ್ನುವವನನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಹಿಡಿಯಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಪೋಲೀಸರು ಅಸಮರ್ಥರೇ ? ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಎಡಬಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶೋಚನೀಯ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತರಾಗಿ ಕೂಡ ಏನೂ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರದವರಾಗಿ, ಮೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡು ತಮಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಘಾತಕರಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ವಿಜಯಕರ್ಣಾಟಕ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರು ವಿಜಯ್ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಎಂಬುವವರು ಬಹಳ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆಂಧ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಒತ್ತಡದಿಂದ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕೂರುವಂತೆ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಕ್ಸಲರು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಸರಬರಾಜಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ? ಇದು ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ವಿಷಯವೇ ! ಚೀನಾ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನಗಳು ಭಾರತದ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಿಡುಗನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುವವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಕ್ರಮ ಬೇಗ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕವೂ ಆಂಧ್ರದ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕಾದೀತು.
ವಿಜಯ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಈ ಸಾಕೇತನ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನೂ ಡಾ|| ಸುದರ್ಶನರ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನೂ ಅವುಗಳ ಉಪಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಸಮಾಜದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಳಕಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತವರಾಗಿಯೂ ಸಹ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಒಂದು ಜನಾಂಗವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರು ಒಂದು ಜನಾಂಗವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪು ದಾರಿಗೆ ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು.
ಅಲ್ಲ, ನಮ್ಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನಕ್ಸಲರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕ್ರಮಕೈಗೊಂಡದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರೋಧವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ, ಸತ್ತ ನಕ್ಸಲರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಣ್ನೀರು ಸುರಿಸಿದ "ಸಾಹಿತಿ"ಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ವಸ್ತುಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನರಿಯದ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಬಹಳ ಅಪಾಯಕಾರಿ. ಅರುಂಧತೀ ರಾಯ್ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿ-ಕಾರ್ನಾಡರೇ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ. ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗೌರಿ ಲಂಕೇಶ್ ಬೇರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ "ಹಾಯ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್" ಖ್ಯಾತಿಯ ರವಿ ಬೆಳಗೆರೆ ಕೂಡ ನಕ್ಸ್ಲರನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಏಕೆ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಹೀಗೆ ? ಐಷಾರಾಮದ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಡವರ ರಕ್ತವನ್ನು ಹೀರುವ ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿಗಳಿಗೂ - ಬಡವರ ಭಾವನೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಟವಾಡಿ ದುಡ್ಡು ಮಾಡಿ ಐಷಾರಾಮದ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುವ ಈ ಬಗೆಯ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಏನೂ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿಲ್ಲ.
ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸ್ಟರು ಎಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಜನಪರರಾಗಿ ತೋರಿಕೊಂಡು ಜನವಿರೋಧಿಗಳಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಚೀನಾ ಮತ್ತು ರಷ್ಯಾ ದೇಶಗಳ ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸ್ಟರನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೀರಾ ? ಒಬ್ಬ ಧುರೀಣ ತನ್ನ ಮಗನಿಗೆ ಮಿಲಿಯಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಜನರನ್ನು ಸಾಯಿಸಿ ಹಿಟ್ಲರ್ ಗಿಂತ ಕ್ರೂರಿಯೆನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ಟಾಲಿನ್ ಹೆಸರನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ತಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲವೇ ? ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಏನು ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಚೀನಾದ ಮಾವೋ ಮತ್ತು ಲೆನಿನ್ ರನ್ನು ದೇವತೆಗಳ ರೀತಿ ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಬೇರೆ ಧರ್ಮಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮತಾಂಧವಾದ ಧರ್ಮ ಈ ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಸಮ್. ಮಾರ್ಕ್ಸನೇ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದ - ನಾನು ಮಾರ್ಕ್ಸ್ ವಾದಿಯಲ್ಲವೆಂದು. ವಾದ ಮಾಡಿದವನೇ ತನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪನ್ನರಿತು ವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುರುಳಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದಾಗ - ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಉರುಳು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಬುದ್ಧಿಗೇಡಿ ಕಾಮ್ರೇಡರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳಲಾದೀತು?
ಬಹಳ ಕೋಪ ಬಂದಿದೆ ನನಗೆ. ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಆಂಧ್ರ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದಾರಲ್ಲಾ ಎಂದು. ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ಇನ್ನೊಮ್ಮೆ ಏನಾದರೂ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿ ಎಂಬ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಗೀತಾಚಾರ್ಯ
ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಮೂರಕ್ಷರಗಳು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತನೆಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಂದಿನ ಶತಮಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾರಸ್ವತ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ಸದಾ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದಂಥವು.
ಈಚಗೆ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರ ಯೋಚನಾಲಹರಿಯೆಂಬ ಆಹ್ಲಾದಕರವಾದ ಗಾಳಿಗೆ ಮನೋಬುದ್ಧಿಯೆಂಬ ಶರೀರವನ್ನು ಒಡ್ಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಇವರನ್ನು ಓದಿದಷ್ಟೂ ಅವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಅವರ ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಉತ್ಕಟ ಇಚ್ಛೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಇವರ ಕೃತಿದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳಸಪ್ರಾಯವಾಗತಕ್ಕಂಥ ಕೃತಿ "ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮನ ಕಗ್ಗ". ಕಗ್ಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಅನುಭವ ಹೀಗಿದೆ. ಎಂಟನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋಖಲೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯವರು ಒಂದು ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕಳಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ದ ನಲವತ್ತು ಪದ್ಯಗಳು ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವು. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಲವತ್ತನ್ನೂ ನಾನು ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಉಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತಿರಬಹುದು. ಆ ವಿಷಯ ಹಾಗಿರಲಿ. ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುವ ವಯಸ್ಸಲ್ಲ ಅದು. ಆದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಆ ಪದ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏನೋ ಒಂದು ಆತ್ಮೀಯತೆ ಕಂಡಿತು. "ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ" ಎಂಬ ಸಂಬೋಧನೆ ನನಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಹಿಡಿಸಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರ ಓದದೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೆ. ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗೊಂದು ಪದ್ಯ ಈಗೊಂದು ಪದ್ಯ ಓದಿದ್ದುಂಟು - ಆದರೆ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದಂಥ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನಗಳು ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧನೆಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕಿಂಥ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಜೀವನಾನುಭವ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈಗೊಂದು ಐದಾರು ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳಿಂದ ಕಗ್ಗವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿಯವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಶತಾವಧಾನಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣೇಶರ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನದ ಸಹಿತ ಮೂಡಿದ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಧ್ವನಿಮುದ್ರಿಕೆ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಹಿರಿಮೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಳದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಕಗ್ಗದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪದ್ಯವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರೂ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾಣುವುದು ಛನ್ದೋಬದ್ಧತೆ - ಲಲಿತವಾದ ಭಾಷೆ - ಮತ್ತು ಆಳವಾದ ಲೋಕಾನುಭವದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ತತ್ವಮೌಕ್ತಿಕ.
ಕಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು "Self improvement" ಪುಸ್ತಕ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದರೂ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ "ಬದುಕಲು ಕಲಿಯಿರಿ" ಎಂಬ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಜಗದಾತ್ಮಾನಂದರ ಗ್ರಂಥದ ಹಾಗೆ ಜನಾದರಣೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬುದು ನಿರ್ವಿವಾದ. ಆದರೂ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿ. ಯವರು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿ ಲಲಿತಪದ್ಯಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ತಮ್ಮ ಅಪಾರ ಲೋಕಾನುಭವವನ್ನು ಸಾರಗಟ್ಟಿಸಿ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮುಖ್ಯವೆಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಡಿವಿಜಿ ಯವರೇ ಹೇಳಿದ ಹಾಗೆ - "ಕವನ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಸುಲಭ". ಈ ಅನುಭವದ ಮುತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಡಲು ಪದ್ಯವೇ ಸೂಕ್ತರೂಪ. ಒಂದು ಪದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ. -
"ಜಟ್ಟಿ ಕಾಳಗದಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲದೊಡೆ ಗರಡಿಯ |
ಸಾಮುಪಟ್ಟುವರಸೆಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ವಿಫಲವೆನ್ನುವೆಯೇಂ ? ||
ಮುಟ್ಟಿನೋಡವನ ಮೈಕಟ್ಟು ಕಬ್ಬಿಣಗಟ್ಟಿ |
ಗಟ್ಟಿತನ ಗರಡಿಫಲ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||
ವಿಷಯನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಹೇಗಿದೆ ? ಇದನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿ ಪದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಅವಮಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಂಥ ಅನುಭವ ! ಎಂಥ ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುವಂಥ ಪದ್ಯ! ಜೀವನದ ಒಂದು ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಲೀಲಾಜಾಲವಾಗಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲವೇ ?
ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಅವರ ಅನೇಕ ಪದ್ಯಗಳು. ಈಗಂತೂ ನಾನು ಕಗ್ಗದ ಪ್ರತಿಯನ್ನು ನನ್ನೊಡನೆ ಸದಾಕಾಲ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಬೇಕಾದಾಗ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಒಂದು ಮುತ್ತನ್ನು ತರುವೆನು. ಮೊನ್ನೆ ನೋಡಿದ ಮುತ್ತು ಹೀಗಿದೆ -
ಎಡರು ತೊಡರೆನಲೇಕೆ ? ಬಿಡಿಸು ಮತಿಗಾದನಿತ |
ದುಡಿ ಕೈಯಾದನಿತು; ಪಡು ಬಂದ ಪಾಡು ||
ಬಿಡು ಮಿಕ್ಕುದನು ವಿಧಿಗೆ; ಬಿಡದಿರುಪಶಾಂತಿಯನು |
ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೆ ದಾರಿಯದು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||
ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದಂಥ ತತ್ವಗಳನ್ನು ಅಪೂರ್ವವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಪದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಣೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗದ ತಿರುಳನ್ನು ಇದರಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮೋಕ್ಷದ ಉಪಾಯವನ್ನೂ ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಅನೇಕ ಪದ್ಯಗಳಿವೆ - ಒಂದೊಂದರಲ್ಲೂ ಜೀವನಪ್ರೀತಿ - ಅವರದೇ ಆದ "ವನಸುಮ"ವೆಂಬ ಪದ್ಯದ ಧ್ವನಿ. ಪದ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾರುಹೋದ ನಂತರ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಇಚ್ಛ್ಯೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸುಲಭವಲ್ಲ.
ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿ.ಯವರ ಬಾಳೇ ಕಗ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ. ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಯಾರೋ ಬೇಕಾಬಿಟ್ಟಿ ಬರೆದದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನೂ ವೇದಾಂತವನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಸಾಧನೆಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗುವಂಥ ಜೀವನದ ಅನುಭವಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವರು ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿ. ಅವರ ಶಬ್ದಗಳಿಗೆ ಅವರ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದಿಂದಲೇ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಧಾರಾಳವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.
ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆದಾಗ ಒಂದು ಕಗ್ಗದ ಪದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬರೆದು ನನಗೆ ತೋರಿದ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ತಾಳೆ ಹಾಕಲು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಈಚಗೆ ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರ ಯೋಚನಾಲಹರಿಯೆಂಬ ಆಹ್ಲಾದಕರವಾದ ಗಾಳಿಗೆ ಮನೋಬುದ್ಧಿಯೆಂಬ ಶರೀರವನ್ನು ಒಡ್ಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಇವರನ್ನು ಓದಿದಷ್ಟೂ ಅವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಅವರ ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಉತ್ಕಟ ಇಚ್ಛೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಇವರ ಕೃತಿದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳಸಪ್ರಾಯವಾಗತಕ್ಕಂಥ ಕೃತಿ "ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮನ ಕಗ್ಗ". ಕಗ್ಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಅನುಭವ ಹೀಗಿದೆ. ಎಂಟನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋಖಲೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯವರು ಒಂದು ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕಳಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ದ ನಲವತ್ತು ಪದ್ಯಗಳು ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವು. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಲವತ್ತನ್ನೂ ನಾನು ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಉಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತಿರಬಹುದು. ಆ ವಿಷಯ ಹಾಗಿರಲಿ. ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುವ ವಯಸ್ಸಲ್ಲ ಅದು. ಆದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಆ ಪದ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏನೋ ಒಂದು ಆತ್ಮೀಯತೆ ಕಂಡಿತು. "ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ" ಎಂಬ ಸಂಬೋಧನೆ ನನಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಹಿಡಿಸಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರ ಓದದೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೆ. ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗೊಂದು ಪದ್ಯ ಈಗೊಂದು ಪದ್ಯ ಓದಿದ್ದುಂಟು - ಆದರೆ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದಂಥ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನಗಳು ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧನೆಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕಿಂಥ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಜೀವನಾನುಭವ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈಗೊಂದು ಐದಾರು ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳಿಂದ ಕಗ್ಗವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಜಿಯವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಶತಾವಧಾನಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣೇಶರ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನದ ಸಹಿತ ಮೂಡಿದ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಧ್ವನಿಮುದ್ರಿಕೆ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಹಿರಿಮೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಳದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಕಗ್ಗದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪದ್ಯವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರೂ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾಣುವುದು ಛನ್ದೋಬದ್ಧತೆ - ಲಲಿತವಾದ ಭಾಷೆ - ಮತ್ತು ಆಳವಾದ ಲೋಕಾನುಭವದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ತತ್ವಮೌಕ್ತಿಕ.

Prem or Saketh
A couple of days ago, I read in the Bangalore newspapers that two dangerous "naxalites" were "killed" in an encounter somewhere in Karnataka.
Of these one was called Prem. Prem's real name turned out be Saketh - Saketh Rajan to be precise. The newspaper story tells how brilliant a student Saketh was. Apparently, this person had gone underground for the past 20 years and his mother was apparently surprised and saddened that her son had lived till a few days ago but was no more now.
Just look at this person's biography. Brought up in the relatively take-it-easy and sleepy Mysore (sleepier in those days), he leaned towards Communism and through that to Naxalism. Naxalism is an off-shoot of communist thinking that is very specific to India. The newspaper story curiously relates that the Bronte Sisters' novel "Wuthering Heights" caused his ideological shift. I haven't read it - so I don't know how much one can get influenced by it. But to each his way.
Such an educated person feeling so keenly about the life of the poor that he gave up his engineering seat (very difficult to get in those days) to a degree in the Humanities and Journalism subsequently.
I have to say that it requires a lot of courage for some one to live true to his convictions. How many of us would do something like this ? Personally I don't like Communist ideas and this makes me wonder how so many seemingly intelligent people end up on the Left. Or is some one who is for the people branded Red ?
Saketh apparently masterminded the founding of the Naxal movement in Karnataka. Are vested interests that come between the government's evidently pro-poor policy and the really poor people so powerful that an alternative struggle has to happen ? This question puzzles me. But people are like sheep. Dr KS Nisar Ahmed describes this "sheepness" present in most of us in his very relevant Kannada poem "kurigaLu sAr kurigaLu". I suppose it needs a "struggle" to unite all affected people.
I felt sad that such a brilliant life was wasted away. I don't know how many people he has changed - but Saketh definitely made me think for sometime on the power of ideals. Here was a man who lived and died for his ideals - though uninformed he may be. It requires a lot of courage to do that. We need more people like Saketh who can live their ideals in their lives.
May Almighty grant peace to his AtmA. (If he were a real communist - he would not like this - which is one of the things I don't like in Communists).

Babaji Nagaraj - is this for real?

I came across the name Babaji in my high school days. I was reading a comic book on Paramahamsa Yogananda and found that Babaji guided Yukteshwar (Yogananda's guru) as well as Yogananda himself.
After that, I forgot about Babaji though the name lingered because of the unique legend associated with it. Can you believe that a physically immortal being exists? Or that Babaji has existed for 1800 years ? Or that he appears as a youth in his twenties to guide his disciples ?
I have a copy of Paramahamsa Yogananda's "An autobiography of a Yogi" but haven't had the time to read it. One of the claims in this book was that even Sri Shankara was a disciple of Babaji. An interesting claim by the maintainers of this web page is that Shankara has mentioned this in his writings. Now, I know that Shankara has not mentioned this at all. If Babaji was Shankara's guru (and Babaji was supposed to be more than 600 years old when Shankara lived and taught),wouldn't Shankara dedicate everything to him? So the claim of Babaji being Shankara's guru seems far-fetched.
This is a very interesting legend, though. I feel that it is our innate desire to be immortal in our physical frames that has caused this legend to propagate and flourish. God is everywhere but there is no need for Him to be physically present (though He can do that) in a certain form. Plenty of great seers and saints have walked the earth and not even a fraction of these people (even the accomplished ones) mentions Babaji's name.
This legend received another shot in the arm from Rajanikanth's Tamil movie Baba. In this movie, Rajanikanth plays a rebellious youth - who is supposed to be a reincarnation of one of Babaji's disciples. Babaji is also shown in the movie as talking to his disciple. It is a romantic notion but too stretched for it to be true.
The story mentioned in this web page of Babaji Nagaraj is again far fetched. But as the author mentions - the unbelievers never believe and the believers never cease to. I am in the middle on this. Certain good people have mentioned this name and they never lie. So if we take their word, we can believe in Babaji. I suppose life would become more interesting if such a person as Babaji existed.
The Himalayas become more interesting when we learn about all these legends. As it is, it is so beautiful and spiritually elevating. With all the legends associated with the Himalayas - like Shiva's abode Kailasa being in the Himalayas, the sage Veda Vyasa's Ashrama being in the Himalayas, the origin of the Ganga river, the route taken by YudhiShThira to attain to heaven - I've just mentioned a few - and of course with the possibility of seeing a legendary and intriguing and powerful personality as Babaji - the Himalayas become simply irresistible. This story has made me think of a trip to the Himalayas.
Hinduism and Himalayas have been inseparable with almost every legend originating in the Himalayas. Parvati's father is the Himalaya range itsefl. Shiva lives in the Himalayas. There are supposed to be a lot of sages and yogis that have become deathless. We also have many temples and stories devoted to the Himalayas. It is probably the most spiritually tuned place in the world. All important Ashramas have a branch in the Himalayas.

I came across the name Babaji in my high school days. I was reading a comic book on Paramahamsa Yogananda and found that Babaji guided Yukteshwar (Yogananda's guru) as well as Yogananda himself.
After that, I forgot about Babaji though the name lingered because of the unique legend associated with it. Can you believe that a physically immortal being exists? Or that Babaji has existed for 1800 years ? Or that he appears as a youth in his twenties to guide his disciples ?
I have a copy of Paramahamsa Yogananda's "An autobiography of a Yogi" but haven't had the time to read it. One of the claims in this book was that even Sri Shankara was a disciple of Babaji. An interesting claim by the maintainers of this web page is that Shankara has mentioned this in his writings. Now, I know that Shankara has not mentioned this at all. If Babaji was Shankara's guru (and Babaji was supposed to be more than 600 years old when Shankara lived and taught),wouldn't Shankara dedicate everything to him? So the claim of Babaji being Shankara's guru seems far-fetched.
This is a very interesting legend, though. I feel that it is our innate desire to be immortal in our physical frames that has caused this legend to propagate and flourish. God is everywhere but there is no need for Him to be physically present (though He can do that) in a certain form. Plenty of great seers and saints have walked the earth and not even a fraction of these people (even the accomplished ones) mentions Babaji's name.
This legend received another shot in the arm from Rajanikanth's Tamil movie Baba. In this movie, Rajanikanth plays a rebellious youth - who is supposed to be a reincarnation of one of Babaji's disciples. Babaji is also shown in the movie as talking to his disciple. It is a romantic notion but too stretched for it to be true.
The story mentioned in this web page of Babaji Nagaraj is again far fetched. But as the author mentions - the unbelievers never believe and the believers never cease to. I am in the middle on this. Certain good people have mentioned this name and they never lie. So if we take their word, we can believe in Babaji. I suppose life would become more interesting if such a person as Babaji existed.
The Himalayas become more interesting when we learn about all these legends. As it is, it is so beautiful and spiritually elevating. With all the legends associated with the Himalayas - like Shiva's abode Kailasa being in the Himalayas, the sage Veda Vyasa's Ashrama being in the Himalayas, the origin of the Ganga river, the route taken by YudhiShThira to attain to heaven - I've just mentioned a few - and of course with the possibility of seeing a legendary and intriguing and powerful personality as Babaji - the Himalayas become simply irresistible. This story has made me think of a trip to the Himalayas.
Hinduism and Himalayas have been inseparable with almost every legend originating in the Himalayas. Parvati's father is the Himalaya range itsefl. Shiva lives in the Himalayas.
